Horvath, Polly (2008). My One Hundred Adventures. Grades 4-7.

Twelve-year-old Jane Fielding lives year-round in a small, coastal town in Massachusetts with her poet mother and three siblings. She wishes for one hundred adventures this summer, but instead gets fourteen. These include going up in a hijacked hot-air balloon, delivering bibles with the local pastor, visiting a fortune teller, babysitting for the five Gourd children, and meeting several of her mother's past boyfriends, one of which may even be her father. Although Jane does not reach one hundred adventures, the adventures she does experience range from funny to poignant and they allow her to better understand herself. Jane is a very observant and intelligent character. Horvath's other characters add humor, are memorable, and will appeal to many readers.

Have you ever thought of running away from your parents? Well in this book Claudia is a girl who is going to run away from her parents and she gets her brother to go with her.They run to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Then they come upon a mystery which you will find out in the book. This is a great book.



The Penderwicks by Jeanne Birdsall.

Have you ever thought of staying in a summer house, which is next to a mean garden freak? Well, in this book, Jane, Skye, Rosalind, and Batty, and their Dad and Dog, they all do. Whenever they go into their neighbors yard and she catches them, she yells at them. They meet their neighbors son, and he is nice, but his Mom wants to send him to a military academy, that his Grandfather had gone too. What the four girls and the one boy are trying to do, is to make the boys parents to let him stay at home, he doesn't want to go to the boarding school. They try, and try... and you'll see what happens!

The Penderwicks are back!

Jane, Skye, Rosalind, Batty, and hound, of course, are back in the sequel to The Penderwicks! When Aunt Claire arrives with a letter for their father written before their mother passed away, the girls are not happy to learn that their mother intended for their father to start dating.

They immediately hold an emergency meeting in which they plan to sabatoge the dating effort by finding the worst possible dates for their dad. But, when they meet their next door neighbor, Iantha, one of the Penderwicks imagines what it would be like to have her as a mother. In addition to the "Save the Daddy" plan, Skye and Jane switch homework assignments and suffer the consequences, albeit mostly humorous ones. Join the Penderwicks in this laugh out-loud sequel and find out if they manage to deter their father from dating or if they're in for a surprise.
